Super Styling!

Over the summer holidays I transformed Monroe’s pirate themed bedroom in to a superhero room.

I wanted to design it in a way that it can evolve as his tastes change, without a massive expense.

For the pirate room I’d excitedly bought him a ship shape bed! I thought he’d love it and use it as a base to play from. Unfortunately it didn’t ever occur to him and except for the one time that I initiated a pirate game with us aboard the boat, he saw it merely as a bed. I guess it was too obvious. But give him a cardboard box and that’ll be a rocket, racing car or turn him in to a box troll!

Super Hero Room

So to start with I repainted all the walls to plain white, as a blank canvas. As a Pinterest and Instagram addict, I searched and searched until I found all of the things I needed that I could buy in the UK to create his room. I also had to choose things that he would agree to, because he is a strong minded 5 year old, that knows what he likes!

Below are pictures of his transformed room with links if you want to ‘get the look.’ If you are looking to gather more ideas, checkout my moodboard on Pinterest.

I’d seen some amazing red, black and yellow bed frames on Pinterest and really love the Timolin style iron bedframes. So I was so excited when I came across this yellow bed frame, from somewhere slightly unexpected. Its from Mamas and Papas! If you’d like one, then order fast, they’re on clearance.

The rug was also from somewhere I hadn’t previously thought to look, Urban Outfitters. I now keep my eye on their site, as they have some fab home furnishings at a great price.

The duvet set is also from Urban Outfitters. I love some of the monochrome bedlinen available, but they can be quite expensive and I already had to purchase another set, that Monroe actutally requested. It is his room after all, as my husband reminded me!

The bedside Orbit table is by Leitmtiv and the batman cushion is by Euphoria both bought through Amazon. The black and white stripe cushion is from Ikea.

I love the DIY letter banner I bought from This Modern Life. You can make so many combinations for either a temporary or permanaent banner feature. I think these also make great little gifts, so don’t be surprised Bramley Road Girls if you unwrap one of these! (You know i’m rubbish at secrets!)

There are still a few more things I want to add to the walls and I have my eye on a few prints and garlands i’ve spotted on Instagram. Follow my gallery, as I repost some of my favourite finds!

I had seen some amazing superhero wall murals, but didn’t want something so permanent and instead decided to find some statement prints for the wall. Again I had to compromise slightly here, as I liked the monochrome or more retro styled prints. However the three large canvas prints I found were a bargain £13 each in the sale at Debenhams! I’ve checked and sorry, they’re not currently available from there.

The red gloss shelves are great for storing all of Monroe’s toys and books, they’re from Ikea.

I decided to get rid of Monroe’s wardrobe and give him two chest of drawers instead. These white ones are from the Malm range at Ikea and are all he needs for the next few years. The green Kartell lamp i’ve had at home for a while, but thought it would suit his new room and the same with the bean bag. Finally, the WHAM! cushion was from Asda George store!

As you can see i’ve created a room that will now grow with him and can be changed to suit whatever toy or thing he is next in to! I sourced everything from the UK and kept the cost fairly low by searching around. So if you are planning on creating a themed room for your little superhero, I hope some of this has been helpful.
