We are finally getting over our weekend! I can describe it in a fairly brief summary using words beginning with the letter S! Sick, Shit, Snot, supposed start of Spring, Swans!
It didn’t quite go to plan, but when you’ve got kids, I generally find its better to keep your plans to a minimum and expectations low! It always seems the more you try to create a fun family time, the more likely everyone is to rebel and have a monk on!
Our biggest little caught the sick bug going round, so was chucking up all Thursday night and off school Friday. Then the Mr started snuffling and was a bit under the weather, with suspected “Man flu”.
So Saturday morning was a slow starter trying to drag the Mr and two boys up and out. I managed to get the Mr to help me clear the garden, mainly of the toys that were broken and either dumped or blown in every direction. We also decided it was time to say goodbye to the 2015 paddling pool that didn’t get packed away before winter, so was starting to look like a permanent water feature, complete with greenery and some living organisms!
Our afternoon plan was to go to the park and then the river to show the littlest the ducks, as he’s started to recognise them in books and makes a cute quack noise. Then out for dinner at a family friendly Italian.
The only way the biggest little was getting out of his pjs, was if he could go out in his spiderman costume, which is too small for him and he styled it with his football trainers. You pick your battles, so this one he won.
It turned out the park was closed for a major clean!!! They were obviously doing their own winter clean up job and perhaps had an issue with their own living organisms too!
So we wandered through town and the Mr got his life support coffee. So much for the start of spring, it was freezing! I was so cold I popped in to H&M to grap another layer and was chuffed to find a fur gilet in the sale for £20 that went perfectly over my leather jacket.
We headed down to the river to see the ducks and swans. The littlest was fairly impressed and quacked happily from his cosy pram. The biggest was still complaining about the lack of park action and the Mr was lacking in enthusiasm full stop.
I on the other hand, found it slightly comical that I resembled the cygnets in my new fluffy grey and white gilet!
After explaining on loop why we weren’t going to go in a boat today, we cancelled our dinner plans, as it was only four, freezing and too cold to wander until we were hungry. So instead we made a dash for M&S to grab an easy, bung in the oven dinner, and headed home.
Finally tonight, both boys have gone to sleep without being sick!
Now to get ready for Easter!!
