(Note : I was meant to post this on the evening of the last day of the Easter holidays, but a poorly toddler, means i’m only just managing to finish it. #realmomblogger)
The Easter holidays are done! I’m exhausted, my house looks like it’s been confetti bombed, but with toys downstairs and clothes upstairs. Every room has become an obstacle course, with both boys emptying cupboards and drawers in every room and I seem to have forgotten to do a food shop over the last two weeks amidst the chaos, so those cupboards are bare too!
We have also been decorating. I decided just before the Easter holidays began, to strip the wallpaper in our living room. Unfortunately it didn’t come off easily and we had to sand down the walls in order to get a decent enough finish to repaint. Doing any job when you have kids is tricky, but decorating with a toddler and bored five year old is insane! Trying to do bits in the evening when they were asleep, or chasing them out of the room numerous times a day. Meant the whole house was covered in dusty footprints and our lounge contents were piled up in the kitchen for the duration of the holidays.
But the chaos isn’t just down to the decorating. There are two reasons for the state we find ourselves in. Firstly lack of school routine and structure means my rebellious party side has surfaced and I’ve not been in the mood to be a good girl. So we ate breakfast late, lunch out and had tea of whatever I could scrape together.
As school uniforms or school mum run uniforms were not required, we have been hanging out in whatever takes our fancy! The dirty washing piles are high and the crockery piles are at student standards, wash it up as you need it.
Secondly and psychologically maybe a big reason for the decline in standards, is that after the Easter weekend, once our guests had left, the husband and I decided it was time to get a cleaner. Most of our arguments are centred around housework and chores. So we decided it was in the interest of our relationship that a cleaner was employed. And with that, I dropped the duster and standards.
What I’ve neglected to do is actually find a cleaner. So now we’re drowning in our own mess and I have a huge job ahead getting the place spick and span before I let any cleaner through the front door!
It’s been a fun few weeks though and I’ve loved spending time with my boys. Here’s a little photo gallery of what we’ve been up to….
Over Easter with friends and family we did Easter egg hunts, egg decorating, ate loads and danced around the kitchen!
We visited Birdland in Bourton on the water.
And Adam Hensons Cotswold Farm Park
We met up with friends, went on play dates, out for meals, visited numerous parks and on the rainy days seemed to end up in another local garden centre!
And when your house is already a mess, then a bit of messy play on a rainy day won’t hurt! So we got the paints out and they redecorated the kitchen.
